That’swhyIhaveputforthlegislation,theFinalHonorsAct, allowinganyU.S.servicememberkilledinaction(KIA)tolieinstatebeneaththedomeoftheU.S.Capitol.ThishonorallowsAmericanstopayfinaltributetothosewhohaveservedournation.Thetraditiondatesbackto1852,whenHenryClay—theseventhspeakerofthehouseandsecretaryofStatetoPresidentJohnQuincyAdams—firstreceivedtherecognition.Sincethen,just46individualshavelaininstateorhonor,includingformerpresidents,civilrightsactivistRosaParksandCapitolpoliceofficerskilledinthelineofduty.
