Kidd-Gilchrist,whospentthemajorityofhisprofessionalbasketballcareerwiththeCharlotteBobcatsandCharlotteHornetsbeforeashortstintwiththeDallasMavericks,hasbuiltareputationasanadvocateforchildhoodstutteringdisorders.
TheKidd’sStutteringActwillmakeearlystutteringdetectionavailabletokidsonMedicaidandtheChildren’sHealthInsuranceProgram(CHIP)bymakingitmandatoryforchildrenbetweentheagesof2and6whentheygoonwellnessvisits.ThebillwouldalsomakecoverageofspeechtherapyservicesmandatoryunderMedicaidandCHIP,amongotherprovisionsaimedatexpandingaccesstocareforstuttering.
