Nelsonsaidacross-checkofstatevoterrecordsfoundthatmorethan2,700possibleillegalimmigrantswereregisteredonthevoterrolls,leadingtoaneligibilityreviewacrossthe254counties.
ThedatacamefromafullcomparisonofTexas’s18millionregisteredvotersagainstfederalcitizenshiprecordsintheU.S.CitizenshipandImmigrationServices’SAVEdatabase,accordingtothesecretaryofstate’soffice.
“OnlyeligibleUnitedStatescitizensmayparticipateinourelections,”Nelsonsaid.“TheTrumpAdministration’sdecisiontogivestatesfreeanddirectaccesstothisdatasetforthefirsttimehasbeenagamechanger,andweappreciatethepartnershipwiththefederalgovernmenttoverifythecitizenshipofthoseonourvoterrollsandmaintainaccuratevoterlists.”
