AweekafterTimeMagazinenamedthe“ArchitectsofAI”asPersonoftheYear,thelatestFoxNewsnationalsurveyofregisteredvotersfindsbroadsupportforcarefuldevelopmentofartificialintelligence—yetlittleagreementonwhoshouldregulateit.
Thepoll,releasedThursday,finds8in10votersfavoracarefulapproachtodevelopingAItomanagepotentialriskstotheU.S.,while2in10preferrapidadvancementtostayaheadofcountrieslikeChina.
Althoughmajoritiesacrosstheboardurgecaution,women,Democrats,votersunderage30,liberals,andmomsaremorelikelytosupportaslowerpace,comparedtomen,Republicans,votersages65andabove,conservatives,anddadswhosupportforgingahead.
Votersaredividedoverwhoshouldoverseethenewtechnology,splittingbetweenthetechindustryitself(28%),stategovernments(26%),andCongress(24%). Fewthinkthepresidentshouldregulateit(11%),whileabout1in10don’tthinkitshouldberegulatedatall.
